What are same day implants?

Same day implants are dental implants for those who have enough healthy jawbone tissue to be capped with a replacement tooth or row of teeth the same day. The process of getting the same day implant is a lot less invasive. The whole procedure is completed during a single visit within a few hours rather than waiting for several months for the process of osseointegration.

The difference between same day implants vs traditional implants is that traditional dental implants require about three to six months to heal before placing the new teeth on the abutment. But with same day dental implants you can get your implants crowned immediately after they are surgically inserted. The gums will start to grow immediately around the implant due to the shorter duration of treatment which prevents food debris from entering the open surgical wound left behind after extraction. The cost of affordable same day dental implants varies for each individual person because of its convenience of having it surgically placed on the same day.

How do same day implants work?

Depending on the number of implanted teeth a single temporary teeth procedure might range from 30 minutes to 3 hours. However, there are usually 3 separate appointments you’ll need to attend.

1. Consultation: Before getting a one-day implant your dentist will need to evaluate the placement of your sinuses and the integrity of your jawbone for each implant. Further surgeries may be required if your sinuses need to be moved out of the way or your bone is too fragile or small to hold an implant. Not everybody is recommended for this implant as it is essential for your gums to be healthy and your jawbone to be sufficient to support an implant.

2. Surgery: The dental implant root will be placed surgically in your jaw on the day of the appointment. Your surgeon or implant dentist may first give you anesthesia to prevent pain during the process. Before proceeding, any teeth that require extraction will be removed and your mouth will be cleaned thoroughly. The dentist will then place the implant after drilling holes into the bone. After the implant placement, a temporary crown will be attached to the top that looks natural and restores your smile while your permanent crown is being created. Your mouth will be cleaned again afterwards, and the incised areas will be stitched up.

3. Post-procedure follow-up: Although you leave with a fixed set of temporary teeth on the day of appointment, usually in a few weeks. You will have to revisit your dentist once the permanent crown is created for the permanent fitting. The permanent teeth are easily replaced with the temporary ones once the mouth is fully healed. The process will be complete as long as you’re satisfied with the crown fitting and the way it looks.
